The Play

Only Just a Minute is inspired by the life and times of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays — long-time president of Morehouse College and mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the wake of Dr. King’s death, Mays is visited by a young reporter, Max Mitchell, who argues against the non-violent ideals for which Mays has always stood.  Mitchell plans to write an article for a national publication, advocating for more aggressive action. Mays, still in the midst of his grief, must confront this challenge and convince this young man that even though a leader has passed, hope for a peaceful future has not died along with him. Along the way, Mays questions his own long-held beliefs, while coming to terms with the loss of his colleague and friend.
