Only Just a Minute the play

Excerpts from the original cast performance of Only Just A Minute in Atlanta, August, 2014.

Only Just A Minute will be performed at The Florissant Civic Center Theatre in Florissant, MO, October 14 - 17, 2015. Florissant is a suburb of St Louis, and is adjacent to Ferguson, MO.

Only Just a Minute is inspired by the life and times of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays - long-time president of Morehouse College and mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the wake of Dr. King's death, Mays is visited by a young reporter, Max Mitchell, who argues against the non-violent ideals for which Mays has always stood. Mitchell plans to write an article for a national publication, advocating for more aggressive action. Mays, still in the midst of his grief, must confront this challenge and convince this young man that even though a leader has passed, hope for a peaceful future has not died along with him. Along the way, Mays questions his own long-held beliefs, while coming to terms with the loss of his colleague and friend.

The play, although in some parts fictional, was based on actual events in Dr. Mays' life, obtained from various research sources, including Dr. Mays' speeches, writings, and book.
